“Why I Love to Ski/Ride” Video Contest Winner Keith Korchok Wins Warren Miller Entertainment Award of Excellence

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (March 25, 2013) —Selected from 17 entries submitted from around the United States, Keith Korchok’s video “Something from Nothing” won the “Why I Love to Ski and Ride” Video Contest, held in conjunction with the Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month/Bring a Friend initiative, earning Krochok the Warren Miller Entertainment (WME) Video Award of Excellence.

Korchok’s entry is a personal story about what motivated his twin brother and him to create a neighborhood terrain park in Saltsburg, Penn. so they could enjoy and share their passion for snowboarding. The brothers regularly snowboard at the nearby Seven Springs in Somerset.

Senan Gorman, chief creative guy for North Pole Design, Halley O’Brien, independent videographer and Tom Horrocks, marketing director for SnoCountry judged the “Why I Love to Ski and Ride” Video Contest entries based on how they demonstrated the exhilaration of skiing and snowboarding and inspired others to participate.

Korchok’s prize included a selection of WME videos, a $500 gift certificate from skis.com, a jacket from The North Face and a subscription to Transworld Snowboarding. Korchok’s work will be recognized during the Marketing Awards ceremony on May 2 at the NSAA national conference in Palm Springs, Calif.

Finalists included Dustin Hinde, of Telluride, Colo. for his video “Wish You Were Here” and Jana Rogers of Bend, Ore. for “Jana and Elana.” They each won a jacket from The North Face, a selection of WME videos and a subscription to either SKI or Transworld Snowboarding.

Chip Lunsford of Atlanta, Ga. and Logan Fields of Manhattan Beach, Calif. received Honorable Mentions for their respective videos, “I Have a Dream” and “Freeride.”

All video submissions are available on YouTube.

A special thanks to sponsors Warren Miller Entertainment, The North Face, SKI and Transworld Snowboarding, skis.com and the National Ski Areas Association.

By: Bring a Friend
December 10, 2012

beginner snowboarder“Taking the Challenge” simply means that you invited and helped enroll at least one newcomer to a beginner lesson or lesson package provided by a professional instructor. You can win prizes from Challenge sponsors for helping to enroll newcomers even if you are one yourself. You can enter more than once by introducing several different newcomers. Please read the Contest Rules before signing up.

There are two ways to qualify for prizes in the national Bring a Friend Challenge (on this Web site).

1) If you are a current skier or snowboarder, just introduce at least one newcomer – a friend or family member – to a beginner lesson or lesson package from a professional instructor.

2) If you are a newcomer yourself, bring another newcomer with you to take beginner lessons from a pro. It’s more fun to learn with a friend or family member.

Either way, you will be considered an “Inviter”. Those those who you invite/help enroll will be considered “Invitees”. These terms will apply when the registration form is filled out.

Qualified participants – Inviters – can win among weekly prizes offered by Challenge sponsors. Product prize winners will be drawn starting the first week in January through March 17. Grand Prize four-day trips to Sun Valley, Idaho; Park City, Deer Valley and The Canyons in Utah or Smugglers’ Notch in Vermont (during the 2013-14 season) will be awarded at the end of the Challenge. Check Prizes for details.

The national Bring a Friend Challenge runs from December 1, 2012 – March 17, 2013.

To qualify for prizes:

1. Inviters must out the Bring a Friend Challenge Entry Form (a new form must be used for each new person you invite).

2. The person(s) you invite must take a beginner lesson or lesson package from a professional instructor. Lesson programs are available HERE or at a local venue of choice. Either way, a copy of a receipt, voucher or beginner lift ticket must be uploaded to verify that your friend(s) or family member(s) took the lesson(s). Special January learning programs and basic newcomer information is posted on www.skiandsnowboardmonth.org.

3. Eligibility requires a completed registration entry form and verification.
