After a week’s worth of competition, Sony Eye of the Condor 2 came to a close on Friday with the first ever iF3-La Parva in Santiago de Chile. Before a large crowd at Mallsport, Team Discrete walked away with a win in the photography category while Team Icelantic earned the award for Best Film. A People’s Choice award will also be voted on later this week.
Chris Bezamat of Team Discrete topped photographers Jordan Ingmire (Team WIDSIX), Roberta Rebori (Team Icelantic), and Juan Luis de Heckeren (Team Chile); Bezemat was awarded for his ability to capture Chilean mountain culture and for his creative use of flashes. While Bezamat competed at the inaugural Eye of the Condor, this marks his first win.
“Last year’s winner, Juan Luis de Heckeren, is a really talented photographer so I was pretty nervous about what team Chile was going to have—plus we didn’t see them the entire week,” said Bezamat. “But, the portrait shot I had of Rachael [Burks] and the sunset shot of Parker [Cook] were pretty strong images, so I thought I had a pretty good chance, but I definitely wasn’t sure we had it by any means.”
