As snowboarding gained popularity, becoming accepted at a rapidly increasing number of resorts, skiers saw things like rails, boxes and halfpipes making their way onto the mountain. A movement of skiers referred to as the "Newschool" who shared the creative, daredevil instinct of the freestyle snowboarder began to invent new tricks in the snowboard terrain parks. This adaptation of the snowboard style, attitude and even clothing represented a rebellion or revolution of sorts against the traditional ski community. As it evolved, this movement gained popularity, respect and even its own Olympic events, and is known today most commonly as Freeski.
